Children should be taught how to write thank you notes as a way to instill the importance of showing gratitude when someone does something nice for them.
Having said that, getting a kid to sit down and write a bunch of formal thank you cards will be a challenge. Additionally, you don’t want to bore your children to tears. They may never want to write another thank you.
The remedy?
Allow them to express their creativity while also providing a little guidance.
When Should Kids Send Thank You Notes?
After a birthday party is the most common time. Birthdays are a great time to teach children gratitude since everything revolves around them.
Here are some birthday thank you note examples if you’re in need of some guidance.
For gifts received after Christmas that were not opened in front of the giver, I would encourage my kids to send thank you notes.
Ideas for Children’s Thank You Notes
Kids do not need to buy cards for their thank you notes. It isn’t a wedding where you need nice paper and ribbons.
Allow them to express their gratitude and have fun while doing it.
Idea 1. Just Let Them Go Wild
Consider letting your kid do whatever comes to mind if they are naturally creative and have a well-stocked craft drawer. Getting them set up is all you need to do:
- Explain the purpose of a thank you note.
- Provide enough pieces of paper.
- Give them enough some art supplies.
- Sit back and hope for the best.
Idea 2. Printable Coloring Cards
If you aren’t comfortable letting your kid go crazy with the craft drawer for two hours, you might want to adopt a more organized approach.
Kids can use printable coloring cards to send thanks to their teachers. Every time they feel like coloring, simply give them a new printout. The cards will magically be done within a couple of days.
But, don’t limit yourself! You can turn any page out of a coloring book into a thank you card with a digital camera or a copy machine.
Template Notes
If your child has never written a thank you card before, using a template can help to teach the basics of how to write a thank-you note. Also, they are simple to create.
However, don’t use a template if your child is old enough to know how to do it on their own. Fill-in-the-blank cards are just for beginners.
Photo Thank You Cards
Using a photo as a thank you card can be a good idea, but only under certain circumstances.
A cute photo is a great gift for adults, but most kids would prefer a drawing. Additionally, you should encourage your child to write a thank you note on each photo thank you card, instead of sending them out without a message.
There are plenty of online services that will help you turn a photo into a thank you card, but, they aren’t necessary. You could just order regular prints and mail them as postcards.
